New impetus for international cooperation
In March 2025, we from Africa Swiss visited the Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade (BWA) in Berlin. The BWA is an internationally active association that is committed to an eco-social market economy and unites over 70 countries in its network. With around 1,300 members from business, science and politics, the BWA offers a platform for the exchange and development of sustainable economic relations.
During our visit, we held constructive discussions with the management of the BWA. The focus was on common interests and potential areas of cooperation, particularly in the context of infrastructure projects, educational partnerships and sustainable development in Africa. A few days later, we signed the membership agreement - an important step for Africa Swiss to expand our network and create new synergies.
The economic situation in Europe is currently characterized by challenges. In Germany, growth of just 0.1 % is forecast for 2025 due to structural problems such as a shortage of skilled workers and a high bureaucratic burden . Switzerland is somewhat more robust, with expected growth of 1.4 %, but remains below its potential . In this context, cooperation between European and African partners is becoming increasingly important in order to open up new markets and develop joint solutions.
Membership of the BWA opens up new opportunities for Africa Swiss to network our projects in Africa with European partners. We look forward to further exchange and to working together on sustainable and future-oriented solutions.
